  • Fifth Avenue Fanny Pack Pattern Review

Fifth Avenue Fanny Pack Pattern Review

Fifth Avenue Fanny Pack by Sallie Tomato Pattern Review & Strap Variations The Fifth Avenue Fanny Pack by Sallie Tomato is really more of a “belt bag” than a fanny pack, as it is worn across the shoulder rather than over the “fanny.” However, it’s versatile with an adjustable, wide strap that allows you to wear it either way. Using Sulky Poly Deco Thread is recommended on the pattern, and we couldn’t agree with that choice more! The Fifth Avenue Fanny Pack is currently a free pattern (with video!) on the Sallie Tomato site. It can be made from almost any type of fabric, which means it is stash raiding…

  • serger snack bags

Serger Snack Pouches with Wipe-Clean Fabric

Serger Snack Pouches These serger snack pouches are quick projects that are made even quicker using a serger. The snack pouch edges are completely enclosed in the serger stitches, so there’s no need for finishing raw edges any other way. There’s no need to turn the project right side out or close any openings with hand sewing. To begin, look to this tutorial from Baby Lock, the “king” of sergers. But, take it a step further by using laminated cotton or oilcloth fabric for the lining. This makes for a snack pouch that’s easily cleaned by wiping with a disinfectant wipe or rinsed under water after use. In the spirit…

  • Puffy Letters with Puffy Foam Embroidery

Puffy Letters with Puffy Foam Sulky Puffy Foam allows you to create dimensional embroideries that “pop” off the surface for great readability and emphasis. Available in 2mm and 3mm thicknesses, Puffy Foam comes in all colors of the rainbow so you can choose a complimetary thread color for minimal show-through. Before embroidering, apply Puffy Foam much like a topper – over the fabric surface. After embroidery, tear away the Puffy Foam from beyond the stitching perimeter. It tears cleanly, especially when used under satin stitching and densely filled areas. For more tips on how to use Puffy Foam, consult THIS post. Puffy Letters What’s more fun than puffy letters? Puffy…

  • rag quilt that glows

Rag Quilt that Glows in the Dark

Rag Quilt Tutorial for Beginner Quilters A Rag Quilt is named as such due to its ragged, or frayed, edges visible on the quilt top. Each block is assembled with the top, middle and backing fabrics quilted prior to construction. Then, the pieces are sewn with wrong sides together so the seam allowances are exposed and showing from the front. This creates a vintage-style look with extra comfy and plush textures. This featured Rag Quilt is quilted with Sulky Glowy Thread, so it glows in the dark once charged by a light source. This is a fun addition for a kid’s quilt or outdoor camping throw. For National Quilting Day,…
