• Sulky Supports CPALI

I am thrilled to tell you about this organization. Every once in a while an opportunity comes up that is just so good, you must participate. That is how we feel about CPALI (Conservation Through Poverty Alleviation, International). This great organization works in Madagascar with rural farmers to develop sustainable livelihoods that support both people and ecosystems. They focus on existing resources, local leadership, community ownership and linking partners to global markets. You may be wondering how a thread company with offices in Kennesaw, GA, is helping this organization on the other side the the world. We give Sulky Polyester Invisible Thread to women working on the CPALI wild silk project. These women have an opportunity to earn…

  • Sulky Supports Quilts of Valor

In honor of National Sewing Month, every week for the month of September I will be highlighting some of the amazing organizations that we support at Sulky of America. One of the coolest parts of this is that I had so many organizations to choose from! Sulky is such a generous company. I could have chosen from hundreds of organizations that do everything from teach kids to sew, to raising awareness of child abuse, to making clothes for children in Africa. I could tell you about providing thread and stabilizers to guilds across the country for their charity projects or when they provided Sulky 12 wt. Cotton to an after school…

  • Why September Is The Best Month

Just the other day I got out of my car and took in a big breath of air. I could hardly contain my excitement. I could smell the promise of fall. That slight bit of crispness, the low to possibly no humidity in the air; I have to admit, I went straight home and started pulling out my fall decor for the house. I love the fall. It is my favorite season full of my favorite colors, my favorite temperatures and my favorite activities. But September is truly my favorite of all! Here is my list of reasons why: My Birthday! My birthday is in September. When I was growing…

  • Fun Hand Embroidery Project – Business Card or Credit Card Holder

In an attempt to not snack at night while I am watching TV, I have been doing some hand embroidery every night. Part of the inspiration for this is Indygo Junction’s “Stitched Style” book. It has 20 great hand projects that are easy and hip. They are a modern take on the 70’s which I love. The designs are a perfect size to add to a ready-made item, like a purse or jacket or you can incorporate them into a project you are making, like a dress or a quilt. The book does have projects you can make that use the embroidery designs, which is what I did with the business…

  • I get back from vacation and school starts

My family ended the summer in style. We took a wonderful trip to St. Simon’s Island off the coast of Georgia. We hung out at the beach. We did a little fishing. We saw some very interesting art. We took in a little history. We saw some amazing needlepoint and Tiffany stained glass at Christ Church, And now my girls have gone back to school! I know most Mama’s love the first day of school, but I hate it. It’s as if in that 5 minute drive from my house to the school, my kids grow one full year. In my mind, I still had a 3rd grader and and…

  • Vacation!

Happy Monday! I just wanted to drop a quick note to let you know that I am on vacation at the beach with my family this week so I won’t be online. It’s a rare opportunity to completely unplug and just focus on relaxing and enjoying my family. I will probably do some hand sewing, book reading and napping but I am going to do my best to stay off the computer. I have some things scheduled for you to see, but please don’t get upset with me if I don’t answer your comments or emails until next week. Thank you in advance and Happy Sewing!
