• Patriotic Placemats Tutorial

In honor of Independence Day, I wanted to make some new placemats for my kitchen. They were quick and easy to make and will be fun to have in my kitchen for July. Here is how I made them. I used the “Tube Method” to make the blocks. IF you aren’t familiar with this method, watch a great YouTube tutorial on how to do it here. I took 4 sets of 4 blocks to create 4 square placemats. Next I made my “quilt sandwich.” I layered the backing, batting and placemat tops together using Sulky KK 2000™ Temporary Spray Adhesive to hold everything in place. I prefer KK 2000 to pins especially…

  • Friday Inspiration

Katrina Wright is a great artist and a member of the Sulky Designer Endorsement Program! She wrote a great blog about making this wonderful quilt and using Sulky PolyLite and Sulky Premier Invisible Monofilament.  Katrina uses PolyLite in the bobbin and monofilament thread for the top. Read Katrina’s blog here I hope this will inspire you to do some quilting this weekend!

  • I broke the rules and boy am I glad!

I have been quilting since I was about 7 years old. Here is my first quilt that was made from my old clothes (I think that green in there is from my Girl Scout uniform!).  From the very beginning I had been told that quilting had very strict rules that must be followed: You must always use a scant quarter inch seam, you must quilt with a walking foot and you MUST use cotton fabric and cotton thread only. Polyester was the devil’s thread as far as my quilt teachers were concerned and must be kept as far away as possible from our precious cotton quilts. Fast forward a few…

  • Coasters – The Perfect Hostess Gift – Tutorial

Recently, a friend of mine sent me a Pin from Pinterest that she knew I would love: some adorable little coasters using half-square triangles. Later we were shopping and  saw the Moda® Dottie™ mini charm packs! I snatched one up immediately knowing these adorable little 2.5″ squares were perfect to make those little coasters. This is the result: What I used: • 1 Moda Dottie mini charm pack • Scrap of Warm & Natural® Batting • Scrap of white and black fabric for backing • 1 fat quarter of white tone-on-tone fabric • Sulky® PolyLite™ in #1001 Bright White • Sulky 40 wt Rayon in #1001 Bright White The very first thing I did was…

  • For Father’s Day – The Perfect Monogram

I am a southerner and southerners do love all things monogrammed. My favorite quote is from one of my girls’ teachers who said, “I would monogram my toothbrush if I could!” It’s true, we do go a little crazy with our monograms, but a well placed, well done and perfectly sized monogram can also be a perfect thoughtful Father’s Day gift. Here are three ideas: Monogram the cuff of his dress shirt – When I was growing up, the only person I knew with a monogrammed dress shirt cuff was a gentleman at my church who was the vice president of a bank. I remember seeing that detail and thinking how…
