Happy Halloween…Decor, that is!

Halloween decor is so much fun to make and display. All bets are off when it comes to embellishments, too. The more the better! Add some fun effects to your Halloween decor with thread that glows, reflects, sparkles and pops! The pillow above features several different thread types, and YES it glows, too!

Let it Glow

Sulky Glowy thread is my first choice for Halloween decor projects. There’s no better time to create glow-in-the-dark wall hangings, table runners, quilts and the like.

Some embroidery designs are even digitized specifically for glow-in-the-dark thread, such as the Halloween Glow – Jack o’ Lantern by Urban Threads pictured below. But you can certainly swap any color in any design for Glowy and you’ll love the result!

Neon Lights

40 wt. Poly Deco neon thread is a great choice for machine embroidery as well as topstitching applications on Halloween decor. If you’re into free-motion work, this thread is nice and strong and produces a shiny, bright finish.

If you’re hosting a Halloween party at home or at the office, try making a set of jar labels using Neon threads. Attach the labels (Devil Dust or Bone Powder are fun) to different sizes of jars using craft glue and fill them with different (questionable) candies or spirits.

Rayon Revelry

If you’re working on a project that features embroidery with a lot of fill stitches, rayon is your best bet for good results. The spider featured above would be equally as cute with Glowy eyes, too! Metallic Monster Mash

A little bit of metallic goes a long way! Adding a hint of glimmer to an embroidery design, such as on the buckle of the witch hat on this table runner, gives a little pop to this Halloween decor project.

The bats on the pillow featured above got a little sparkle, too. Just stop and start the design when you want to switch from black to silver metallic to create this fun effect.

Don’t you CRY

Sulky CRY thread stands for Coated Reflective Yarn. It’s particularly fun to use it for costume details and T-shirts you’ll wear out at night. But it also works for Halloween home decor, too. Embroider a large-scale design onto felt or fleece and hang it as an ornament next to your porch light so it reflects when car lights pass by.
