Sewing Vacation to Germany

New Year’s resolution: sewing vacation!

To avoid a resolution that’s unattainable, I like to keep it simple and vow to simply sew more, have more fun, spend more time with the kids…things like this. This year my New Year’s resolution is to take a sewing vacation. I’m vowing to feed my passions by traveling more and absorbing inspiration from other cultures, other cities, and other people. I know it’s a lot easier to do this sort of thing if you don’t have to work most days, as it can be hard to get days off work. I’m assuming though that a lot of older people might like the sound of a sewing vacation, particularly if they are retired and have a lot of free time on their hand. You don’t even have to travel all over the world if you don’t want you, you could just go to somewhere like these ultimate UK caravan spots first (using a caravan is a great way to save money) and you can just go from there. The important thing is to just remember to enjoy it.

I’ve been very lucky in my career to experience many sewing “vacations,” quilting shows, and events. There’s nothing that rejuvenates your love of sewing, crafting and quilting quite like a sewing or quilting vacation: being among like-minded folks, learning new techniques, and being exposed to cutting edge products. Each time I return home, I’m filled with ideas that I log into my sketchbook. Some ideas come to fruition quickly while others transform and change as trends and/or more shows creep up on my calendar. If I ever need a gift idea or just want to sew, I take a look at my book and have some sort of direction.

This year, Sulky has a unique sewing vacation opportunity for YOU to travel to Germany and Austria with Craftours to see how Sulky thread is made and manufactured. We’ll see some great sights along the way, including the marvelous Christmas markets in Nuremberg and Salzburg, where we will also see locations filmed in the Sound of Music (a “few of my favorite things!”).

Sewing Vacation to Germany Christmas Markets

The sewing vacation itinerary is jam-packed with daily excursions, including making a Christmas ornament and baking apple strudel. The best part is that you don’t have to think at all–just enjoy. There’s a professional tour guide the entire time, providing wake-up calls, meeting places and translators throughout the stay. First-class accommodations are stellar, as are the many food options. This is the perfect vacation for any crafty person who wants to see the world without having to plan the whole trip themselves. You will literally show up and all you have to remember is to get yourself to the bus on time each day.

I had the pleasure of visiting the Sulky thread manufacturing and dyeing houses back in 2013 as part of Sulky’s 25th Anniversary and I was mesmerized by the quality and care that’s put into these products.

Watching the thread being dyed and then wound onto spools was absolutely fascinating. I have an entirely new outlook on the thread I use for projects and what it means to put this kind of standard into the things I create.Sewing Vacation Thread Spools

I promise you, this exclusive sewing vacation opportunity will leave you super inspired. Oh yeah–it’s exclusive! No one is EVER allowed on a tour of these facilities. But as part of this tour, you’ll get an inside look (plus a GREAT goodie bag). How special is that?

In addition, Sulky Educator Eric Drexler and Sulky Director of Content, Ellen March, will be your hosts on the tour. We’ll be on the daily excursions, at the breakfasts, and traveling with you each day, available to answer your sewing and quilting questions, discuss Sulky products and anything else you’d like to know! So not only will you be on the trip of a lifetime, you’ll also have personal sewing experts at your side.

The best part of a trip like this is making lasting friendships. You’ll get to know all of your tour mates, where they’re from, what craft they love the most, and be able to share an experience you’ll treasure for the rest of your life. You can come with a partner, spouse, son or daughter, or come alone. You’ll be embraced by new crafty friends who are excited to begin each new adventure every day.

Start planning (and saving) now to budget this sewing vacation into your 2019 plans. This 10-day trip begins Nov 30 (just in time for the Christmas markets to kick into high gear), and registration closes August 30. Sign up today to take advantage of a payment plan! As an added bonus, the first 5 to sign up win this ($225.75 if sold separately!).
