Cinco de Mayo Embroidery on Cute Tea Towels

Cinco de Mayo Embroidery is much easier with Sulky Sticky Fabri-Solvy! These tea towels are lightweight and crinkly, but the embroidery is easy–even easier than making a bowl of guacamole. Arm yourself with the right products and you’ll have no problems stitching these fun towels with ease.

How to Do the Cinco de Mayo Embroidery

Choose a design you like. Avocados, tacos, margaritas, limes, cilantro bundles–these are all great tea towel designs appropriate for Cinco de Mayo embroidery.

The featured design is called Holy Guacamole by Concord Collections. It comes in one size suitable for a 4×4 hoop.

Hoop a rectangle of Sulky Sticky + with the paper side facing up.

Then score the paper within the hoop and peel away the paper backing, revealing the adhesive.

Determine the embroidery placement on the towel right side and mark the center cross marks using a removable fabric marker.

Center the towel markings over the hoop; finger press the towel to the exposed adhesive, making sure there are no wrinkles or folds.

Then remove the paper backing from one sheet of Sulky Sticky Fabri-Solvy. Place the stabilizer sheet on the towel within the hoop perimeter. Embroider the design.

Clip any jump threads. Trim the Fabri-Solvy close to the design perimeter.

Tear away the stabilizer from the towel wrong side.

I was able to tear away all the stabilizer using tweezers. If you have a more detailed design, use Sulky Fabri-Solvy in the hoop instead of Sticky +. Hoop the stabilizer only and use a bit of KK 2000 to secure the towel before adding the Sticky Fabri-Solvy. This way you’ll be able to wash away all the stabilizer in one step.

Finally, wash away the remaining Sulky Fabri-Solvy by running the towel under warm water until completely dissolved.

Finishing

Let the towel dry. I placed mine over a Terry cloth towel to absorb the excess moisture.

Once dry, press from the wrong side.
