FREESTANDING HEARTS STITCHOUT
First, hoop two layers of Sulky Fabri-Solvy. Pin just beyond the hoop perimeter to secure the layers and prevent the stabilizer from drawing up during the stitchout. (Note: you can combine several heart files into one larger hoop, if desired!)
Embroider the design, following the included color chart. Use the same thread in the needle and bobbin for all steps of the design. Make sure to trim jump threads on the right and wrong side of the hoop after each thread change.
When the embroidery is complete, trim the freestanding lace hearts just beyond the design perimeter.
Place the freestanding hearts into a bowl of warm water and agitate the lace pieces a bit using your fingertips. Rinse them thoroughly to remove the stabilizer completely.
After the stabilizer is removed, let the freestanding lace hearts dry flat on a towel.
NAPKIN TIES
To use the freestanding lace hearts as napkin ties, thread a 1/2″-wide ribbon through the heart loop(s). Note: some of the heart files have top and bottom loops while others only have top loops. Choose the file you like best! You may only want a top loop if using as a napkin tie.
Roll a napkin or gather a napkin as desired. Wrap the ribbon around the napkin and tie the ribbon ends into a bow to secure. Adjust the freestanding lace heart so it’s oriented as desired.
Repeat to create as many napkin ties as needed for a cut holiday, lovely Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day brunch tablescape!
CAKE TOPPERS
To use the freestanding lace hearts as cake toppers, you’ll need to choose a heart design that has both an upper and lower loop. Insert a toothpick into both the lower and upper lace loops, threading the toothpick from front to back.
Insert the toothpick into a piece of cake or display several on a cake top in a fun arrangement. Or, place a freestanding lace heart cake topper into a cupcake for a fun gift!
HEART ORNAMENTS
Freestanding lace hearts ornaments are a sweet addition to a Christmas tree or fun pink flocked tree for Valentine’s Day. Choose a hear tdesign from the collection that only has an upper loop, if desired. Or, plan to create a tassel in the lower loop for additional embellishment and whimsy.
Use Sulky Clear Invisible Thread or twine to create a hanging loop for the upper lace loop on the heart. Tie the Thread ends into a knot, and then place the ornament on a tree.
ZIPPER PULL CHARMS
Attach a few hearts together using the jump rings included in the Lovely Earrings Webcast Kit to create a tiered zipper pull charm. Refer to this post for the how-tos for the charm and zipper pouch!
