FUZZY BUNNY DESIGN TIPS

The Fuzzy Bunny design featured Sulky Filaine Thread, a 100% acrylic thread that fluffs when brushed with our Filaine Wire Brush. You will need a MAXI SPOOL of Filaine Thread to have enough for the Fuzzy Bunny stitchout.

The sewing machine does need some modifications for successful stitching with this heavyweight thread:

  • The needle size is important! We recommend using needle size 100/16 Titanium, Jeans or Universal Needle.
  • Use Sulky Bobbin Thread or 60 wt. PolyLite in the bobbin
  • For embroideries on coarse fabrics, use Sulky Solvy® Stabilizer as a topper to prevent stitches from getting lost in the fabric, thus enhancing that special needlework touch
  • You may need to lower the top tension slightly
  • Only use Filaine Thread for embroidery designs digitized for this type of thread (For instance, widely spaced, a minimum of short stitches, preferably with only few, or no, underlay stitches). Make sure the design is digitized for heavyweight thread (12 wt).
  • The design may also include a lighter weight thread, such as Sulky Rayon or Poly Deco, for detailing. The Fuzzy Bunny design also features Sulky Poly Deco Thread, which is used for the fuzzy bunny detailing (inner ears, face, whiskers). Make sure to consult the color sequence chart to ensure the correct thread weight is used for the corresponding color in the design. Be sure to swap the needle size when switching to the lighter weight thread during the stitchout.
  • After the embroidery is finished, remove the fabric from the hoop and use a Filaine Wire Brush to brush the embroidery. It’s best to brush in a downward motion or in the direction of the fur. After you’re done, use a lint roller to remove loose fibers from the fabric.fluff with Filaine brush

IMPORTANT MACHINE SETTINGS

  • Slow the machine speed by at least half. Some machines may require the slowest speed setting possible.
  • TURN OFF the automatic cutting feature, which ties off the thread slightly along the wrong side at the beginning and end of each color stop. This pulls the top thread to the wrong side, creating more density for the needle to pass through. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. Instead, trim the thread tails during the stitchout; the machine may stop to remind you to do this.
  • If breakage becomes a problem, trying treating the thread spool AND the needle with Sewer’s Aid as needed.

FUZZY BUNNY PROJECT INSPIRATION

If making a Greeting Card using this design, first complete the stitchout on a piece of Sulky Felty. Then, adhere the Felty to a stiff card stock to personalize and/or ship to the recipient.

With this professional needle felt comes high-quality results, as the embroidery needle doesn’t deflect when piercing the felt.

Felty is soft and yet dimensionally stable. Because it’s washable, the felt is very versatile. Easily create high-quality appliqués, in-the-hoop embroidery files, tags, emblems, badges or patches, and much more.

FELTY is not the same as ” craft felt! For this special needle felt, fibers are mechanically connected with the help of numerous barbed needles until a high-quality felt surface is created.

  • 100% Polyester
  • Washable at 86°F
  • Vegan
  • Clean cutting edges
  • Dimensionally stable
  • Soft
  • Correct penetration of the needle guaranteed
