Pumpkin Pillow – Free Foundation Paper Piecing Pattern
Pumpkin Pillow for Fall Décor
Grab this free pattern for a pumpkin pillow, featuring foundation paper piecing and an envelope-style closure to easily swap your seasonal décor. The included FPP Pumpkin pattern is easily repurposed into a quilt block for a coaster, placemat, table runner or quilt, too!
If you’ve never used Sulky Paper Solvy™, your life will forever change once you try it! Print the FPP Pumpkin page directly onto a sheet of Paper Solvy, and then construct the pumpkin by following the pattern directions. After piecing is complete, moisten a cotton swab and run it along the seamlines to gently lift up the paper to remove. Or leave the paper intact throughout the pillow construction and the paper will dissolve in the first wash cycle!

PILLOW FABRIC CHOICES
The FPP Pumpkin portion of the pillow requires four orange-hued fabrics. The featured pumpkin showcases solid fabrics in oranges and yellows. Dive into your fabric stash to find fun fabrics to create your pumpkin. Polka dots, stripes, and even prints with floral motifs, will all work to create a center focal point for the pillow. Foundation paper piecing is a great way to use up these fabric bits that you can’t part with after completing other projects!
For the border fabrics, choose prints or solids that either match or contrast the pillow fabrics. The backing requires two rectangles to create the envelope-style closure. Choose two of the same print or two different prints for a truly patchwork-style creation.
OPTIONAL EMBELLISHMENTS
Pillows of any kind lend themselves to all sorts of embellishment options. Before adding the pillow backing rectangles, add some quilting using Sulky 30 wt. Blendables® Thread.
Blendables Thread is randomly dyed every 2 1/2″ to 5″ across the thread length, allowing you to create colorful quilting stitches without rethreading the machine. Be sure to use a size 90/14 Universal or Quilting Needle to accommodate the thread thickness.
Set the machine for free-motion and add some vines, leaves or tendrils to the pumpkin for personality!
The pumpkin center is also large enough to accommodate a hand or machine embroidered monogram, too! Have fun with the design once it’s pieced to create a pillow that’s unique to you.
