Thanksgiving Coasters in the Hoop

Thanksgiving Coasters

Thanksgiving Coaster Set

Thanksgiving coasters? Yes, please! With the crisp air rolling in and the scent of pumpkin spice baking in the kitchen, there’s no better time to pull out your embroidery machine and create something both beautiful and useful. The Friendsgiving Collection Coaster Bundle from Parker on the Porch is designed to do just that — six witty, heart-warming designs that celebrate seasonal fare and friendship, made completely in-the-hoop.

Here are tips for creating Thanksgiving coasters that really pop — with sumptuous softness inside, colorful sheen in the stitches, and cushioned comfort for your table.

ABOUT THE COASTER DESIGNS

  • The Friendsgiving Coaster Collection includes digital embroidery file with four style options: “Pour some gravy on me,” “Leftovers are for quitters,” “Go ahead bake my day,” and “Eyes on the pies.”

  • Approximate finished dimensions: 5.05″ × 5.05″ and 6.29″ × 6.28″.

COATER SUPPLIES

To get the very best performance and texture from this design bundle, use the following materials:

Material Why It Matters
Sulky Ray-on Thread This thread gives your embroidery vibrant, lustrous sheen. The rayon fibers catch light beautifully, making designs like “Go ahead bake my day” sparkle, especially on darker fabrics.
Soft ‘n Sheer Stabilizer (Sulky) Instead of stiff stabilizers that leave coatings hard or crunchy, Soft ‘n Sheer adds interior softness. It helps the coaster feel pleasant under hands, allows some give, and provides enough support for clean stitches without being bulky.
Sulky Felty Use this for the center fabric (the face of the coaster). It adds cushioning — perfect for hot coffee mugs or cold drinks — and a texture that makes your coaster more than just practical; it becomes tactile and cozy.

THANKSGIVING COASTER TIPS

Prepare the Machine & Design
Load the desired file size/style. Install a size 75/11 Embroidery Needle and thread it with Sulky Rayon Thread. Use Sulky 60 wt. Bobbin Thread in the bobbin for a balanced stitch.

Stitching

    • Use Sulky Rayon Thread for all embroidery elements. The letters, icons, decorative bits will really benefit from that sheen. Follow the instructional PDF that comes with the design files to add the border fabrics of your choice.

Closing the Fabric Opening
The backing is made of two fabrics with overlapped folded edges. To help achieve crisp edges and corners before turning right side out, trim the edges using pinking shears. Or, use a rotary cutter, ruler and self-healing mat to cut 1/8″ from the outer stitching.

To close the opening after turning the coaster right side out, consider fusing a strip of Sulky Perfect Appliqué Fusible Web between the layers. Optionally hand sew after fusing, if desired.

Final Press & Care
Give them a light steam press on the back (using a pressing cloth). Avoid heavy washes; Rayon Threads benefit from gentle care to maintain their shine.

Why These Choices Make a Difference

  • The soft stabilizer prevents that stiff, plasticky edge coasters sometimes have.

  • Rayon Thread elevates the visual aesthetic — the playful sayings and motifs look glossier and more professional.

  • Felty adds tactile comfort; it insulates a bit, absorbs moisture on the underside and protects surfaces.

Together, these materials transform a bundle of digital files into coasters you’ll want to show off at your Thanksgiving table, cozy brunches or when friends drop by for coffee. Create a set and tie it with a ribbon to gift to a friend!
