Note: These instructions are the same for both the cat and dog pillow version.

First, download and print the pet skeleton appliqué templates.  Ensure the printer is set to print at 100% and  the paper orientation is set to landscape.

Next, fold or trim the first page along the solid line at the bottom, then align the new edge with the solid line at the top of page two.  The complete skeleton design should align. Tape together.

Cut out the main body outline of the skeleton, then use it to cut two main body pieces from the black Felty.

Then, trace all 34 skeleton pieces onto the paper side of the Perfect Appliqué Fusible Web.

Fuse the traced skeleton shapes to the white Felty, and then cut out each skeleton piece.

Skeleton Appliqués

Remove the paper backing from the white skeleton pieces. Using the alignment diagram included in the template PDF as a visual guide, place the white skeleton pieces on the black body outline. Then, fuse in place.

HELPFUL TIP: Position all of the pieces before fusing anything in place. This way, you can still make minor adjustments to each individual piece to achieve perfect placement.

First, install a size 90/14 Needle. Using white Glowy Thread in the needle and either 50 wt. Cotton or 60 wt. Bobbin thread in the bobbin, stitch the perimeter of each skeleton piece. Choose the appliqué or decorative stitch of your choice.

For the featured pillow, a blanket stitch with a shortened stitch length was used. This stitch is easier than a zigzag stitch when going around the curves of the small pieces. The shortened stitch length allows for more stitches around each piece. This is more than is needed to actually secure the small pieces, but the extra stitches add more of the Glow factor of Glowy thread.

Pet Pillow Construction

Install a size 70/10 Universal Needle. Thread it with black 50 wt. Cotton Thread. Use the same thread in the bobbin.

With wrong sides together, align the two main body pieces. Stitch the perimeter approximately 1/8” from the edge, leaving the bottom of one of the feet open for turning and stuffing.

Turn the pillow right side out through the opening.

Using small amounts at a time, stuff with fiberfill until as plump as desired.

Along the turning opening, align the edges and hand sew the opening closed using a backstitch, slipstitch or ladder stitch.
