Santa’s getting ready for his big night , and what better way to celebrate the season than by stitching up his iconic wardrobe as a whimsical garland for your mantel? Using Sulky Felty, Sulky Perfect Appliqué Fusible Web, and Sulky 30 wt. Cotton Thread, you can create adorable, paper doll–style pieces of Santa’s wardrobe: coat, pants, socks, hat, and more. This project is quick, kid-friendly, and the perfect craft to pull out during winter break.

SANTA’S APPLIQUÉS

Download and print the free templates. Cut out each shape—Santa’s coat, socks, pants, scarf, hat, and any fun extras you want to add.

Tip: Print on heavier paper if kids will be tracing. It makes the pattern pieces easier to manage!

Place the Sulky Perfect Appliqué Fusible Web paper-side up and trace the mirror images of the template pieces that overlap applicable “base” pieces. Cut loosely around each shape.

Fuse the traced pieces to the wrong side of the chosen Felty colors. Once cooled, cut out each piece precisely along the lines. This method keeps your appliqués crisp, clean, and ready to assemble.

SANTA’S WARDROBE ASSEMBLY

Peel the paper backing away from each fused piece. Arrange the elements, including the trim on the coat, suspenders, sock feet/heels, onto the corresponding Felty piece.

Once happy with the arrangement, fuse everything in place with an iron. Note: Some elements extend below their “base” piece, such as the pants trim. Either omit the fusible on those pieces and secure with KK2000 Temporary Spray Adhesive instead, or only partially fuse them to the base piece.

Kids LOVE this step because it feels just like assembling paper dolls!

STITCHING

Thread the machine with Sulky 30 wt. Cotton Thread. Select a straight stitch or a narrow zigzag stitch. Sew carefully just inside each Felty piece, swapping thread colors with each Felty piece.

Add outlines, decorative stitching or fun accents, if desired. The thicker thread adds bold definition and makes each piece pop.

HANG SANTA’S WARDROBE

Using decorative clothespins, hang each piece of Santa’s wardrobe to an existing garland or clothesline.

Drape the garland across the mantel, doorway, wall or even a staircase. Stand back and smile—Santa’s wardrobe is officially ready for Christmas Eve!

This project brings cozy charm to your holiday décor and makes a great family activity when the weather outside is chilly.
