Easter Fabric Baskets

Stitch an Easter fabric basket featuring machine embroidery and quilting. The cork border and handles add a bit of fun sophistication. And, the foam interlining provides nice structure so the basket stands up on its own, ready for treats from the Easter Bunny. Start with our Fabric Baskets Kit, with pattern by Heather Valentine of the Sewing Loft, and choose from three basket sizes. Then, grab a design from our Bunny Hop Collection for a bright, springy touch.

To turn these fabric baskets into Easter baskets, simply choose an embroidery design that fits the theme. Our Bunny Hop Machine Embroidery Collection fits the bill! THis collection is available with or without the threads featured in the design. If you purchase the thread bundle, the designs are basically FREE! Each design in the collection comes in three sizes, too, so you can choose the size based on the Fabric Basket size you’re making.

BAG CONSTRUCTION NOTES

When preparing the fabric for embroidery, be sure to take into account the size of the basket base when placing the design. Or plan to center the design just under the upper-edge cork band so it doesn’t end up in the lower-edge seam by mistake.

You can see that the design on the bag on the top was placed too low. The design on the bag on the bottom is just right.

ADDING HANDLES

In addition tot he cork band at the top of the basket, consider adding handles so the Easter Basket can be held to collect eggs.

First, add handles to the basket sides, per the webcast instructions.

Then, create cork strips, folded in half lengthwise and topstitched. Add snaps to be able to remove the handles later, if desired.

Next, snap the strips around the side handles.

BASKET QUILTING

The quilting is another place for personalization. Decide on our desired quilting method to secure the fabrics to the foam interlining. This interlining is nice and soft, yet helps the basket retain its shape.

Take the finished baskets to the next Easter Egg Hunt and be the star of the show! These baskets are also great for housing plants and organizing just about anything. Once you make one, you’ll want to make several!
