Felt Bottle Toppers are great crafts to make to dress up bottles for a special occasion. Whether it’s a gift for your sweetheart or a way to add a festive touch to party favors, these adorable heart felt bottle toppers are the perfect solution. In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to create these delightful toppers using Sulky Felty, 30 wt. threads, and a few simple techniques. The soft texture of Felty combined with vibrant threads makes these hearts stand out, giving your bottles a fun, “heart-felt” flair.

FELT BOTTLE TOPPERS SUPPLIES
- Heart Felt Bottle Toppers Pattern (it’s free!)
- Sulky Felty™ – Gray, Purple, Pink, Red & White
- Perfect Appliqueâ„¢ Fusible Web
- 30 wt. Cotton Thread: Purple, Pink, Red & White
- 50 wt. Cotton Thread or 60 wt. Bobbin Thread
- Organ® size 90/14 Universal Needle
- Marking pen
- Open Toe Sewing Machine Foot (optional)
APPLIQUÉ PREP
Grab the free Heart Felt Bottle Toppers pattern, which includes the printable appliqué templates. Print out the template page.
Trace the appliqué shapes from the template page onto the paper side of the fusible web.
Trace two Body templates onto each color of Felty. Cut out each shape along the traced lines.
Fuse each appliqué shape onto the wrong side of the corresponding Felty color.Â
Position the shapes onto the center of one Topper Body.
Press to fuse the hearts to the Topper bodies.
BOTTLE TOPPER SEWING
Thread a size 90/14 Universal Needle with Sulky 30 wt. Thread. Wind a bobbin with Sulky 50 wt. Cotton Thread or 60 wt. Bobbin Thread. Install an Open Toe presser foot, if possible.
Choose a favorite decorative stitch on the sewing machine, such as a blanket or satin stitch. Stitch along the edges of each appliqué shape.
Place two matching Topper body pieces wrong sides together. Stitch the two halves together along the curved edge, using a blanket stitch. Leave the lower straight edge open.
Place the Felt Bottle Topper on a bottle of your choice. Gift the bottle (with cover!) to a friend or family member for the holidays or Valentine’s Day!
