Snake Costume for Halloween (& more!)

    September 13, 2023 /

Sew a Snake Costume Create a spooky snake costume for Halloween so it looks like a snake is coiling around your body ready to eat! This clever costume is made of a pair of leggings (more affordable than purchasing this type of fabric yardage) and is constructed with a serger. If you don’t have a serger – don’t worry! Simply set your sewing machine for a stretch stitch, install a Jersey needle and stitch the same seams as shown below. SNAKE COSTUME SUPPLIES Snake-print poly-spandex leggings (such as these; adult size small or “one size”; with elastic casing, ideally) Sulky Poly Deco™ Thread (four spools if using a serger; one…

    Quick Cape Costume for Halloween

    October 1, 2022 /

Quick Cape Costume your super simple solution to dressing up this Halloween (or every day you need some superhero energy)! CAPE COSTUME DETAILS This cape is sized for an adult, but easily adaptable for a kid’s costume. Draft a quick pattern, and then sew. Include a superhero-inspired motif, monogram or appliquéd letter to the cape back for fun personalization. No cutting machine is needed for this glittery motif, but if you have one – now’s your chance to use it! It’s easier to use the vinyl shimmer sheet than a fabric appliqué, especially if working with a fabric that can’t tolerate the heat needed for fusible web. Plus, the sticker…

    September 13, 2019 /

Halloween costumes to sew don’t have to break the bank and don’t have to keep you up all night sewing before the big day. Here are some great Halloween costume ideas, whether you want your costume (or your kid’s costume) to be subtle or elaborate this year. September 11, 2019 /

Freestanding Lace Flower Fascinator with Filaine Thread by Anna He, Seattle Cosplay Create a flower fascinator using freestanding lace designs and Filaine thread by Sulky. This project is a great starting point for a quick Halloween costume (wear all green and call yourself a bouquet!) and also is a fun addition to your every-day wardrobe. from Anna: I have a fall/winter costume on my bucket list and to go along with it is a pretty pastel colored fascinator. The Filaine thread is an excellent choice for a handmade look while using my embroidery machine to stitch out freestanding lace (FSL). When I first got the thread, I was impressed by…
