MEDITERRANEAN THEMES
As we begin to put 2024 to rest, I can’t help but reflect on the past year and review everything I’ve sewn, all that I’ve learned and the places I’ve been that have changed my worldview and inspired my passion for sewing. I can’t believe I’ve been lucky enough to visit both Ireland and Bali this year, representing Sulky with Craftours. And I can’t wait to take many of you with me to Greece and Germany (to the Sulky motherland) in 2025! (Be sure to check out these tours before they sell out and plan on taking some amazing adventures!)
Every time a new year begins, it’s an opportunity to be creative in different ways; explore new techniques; meet new people who love to do what we love to do – people that understand that fabric is LIFE, that not all THREAD is created equal, that sewing is THERAPY. When you come on one of our tours, you’re sure to make new lifelong friends who fit this bill and are also passionate about sewing, quilting and creating.
I recently attended a Trend Report for 2025 and I was happy to hear that Mediterranean icons will begin to emerge more in the craft space in the year ahead. Blues, whites, tiles and citrus motifs are all popping up and we’ll see them on fabrics, in embroidery designs and even on greeting cards. When you come on our Sulky Greece tour, you’ll be able to immerse yourself into this trend and bring home so much inspiration for future makes!
COWGIRL CHIC TREND
Another big trend for 2025 is “Cowgirl Chic.” This trend really took off with the “Barbie” movie, with pink cowgirl hats, sequins and fabulous boots entering the scene. While the “sparkle” cowgirl is still going strong, we’re seeing a more down-to-earth iteration of this theme hit the runways and trickle down into home décor motifs, too.
I predict you’ll start seeing more horses, horseshoes, bows, hats and boots of all kinds in fabric lines, popping up in sewing patterns and in machine and hand embroidery, too. 2025 will have a more “earthy” and “downhome” take on the Cowgirl Chic moment and we are HERE for it!
What better way to embrace this emerging trend than to make the perfect bag for it? The DUTTON is this year’s New Year’s Eve sew-along pattern, designed by Sallie Tomato. The freestanding lace overlay gives this bag its personality, but you can also deviate from the lace and “frame” your own appliqué, design or favorite fabric.
Join us on New Year’s Eve from 12pm – 4pm ET and sew this western-chic shoulder bag during the 4-hour livestream. If you can’t join live or need to leave before it’s over, don’t worry! The whole event is recorded so you can watch it anytime from the comfort of your own home, whenever you’re ready to sew.

DISCO GLAM TREND
Disco balls are already everywhere, and according to the Trend Report they are here to stay! The good news is that you can bring some mirror-tile effects into your projects with a few specialty threads from Sulky.
This thread has glass beads in it, making it reflective! Use it for light embroidery designs, clothing accents and more. Check out this post to learn how to use it.
This thread is laminated with polyester, making it appear almost liquid-like. It’s a flat thread, so needs some special handling. But the end result makes the extra work totally worth it! Refer to this post to see the differences between flat and round threads, and learn how to sew them with eas.
Create disco balls that glow in the dark with the help of Sulky Glowy Thread. Grab this free quilt pattern and choose a disco-ball motif for the Glowy quilting!
