Christmas in July Series – Bonus Projects from your Christmas Tree Skirt Fabric Scraps
Special note: This was supposed to go up last week, but I had to get emergency dental surgery and that just threw everything off! I hope you will forgive me the delay. I will post extra this week, I promise! Enjoy. Blame it on hoarding, or my mom, or my complete and utter addiction to fabric, but I have a hard time throwing scrap fabric away. So when I was making the Speedy Spiral Christmas Tree Skirt, I just knew that I would have to come up with some cool ways to use the scrap fabric, especially the extra wedges that I got out of my strip sets! I mean really,…

Christmas in July Series – The Speedy Spiral Christmas Tree Skirt
A speedy spiral Christmas tree skirt is just what we need to update our holiday décor. I know Christmas is 6 months away, but if you are like me, the closer it gets to the end of the year holidays, the more frantic I am. Between my kids going back to school, fall, Halloween, football season, Thanksgiving and then Christmas, I am lucky to get all my costumes and gifts made. I don’t usually have time to make any new Christmas decorations for myself. Every year, I say I am going to make new decorations and every year I get too busy. So this year I am doing them now!…

A Few Quick Patriotic Tutorials – Yes, you can do them all by this weekend!
As I was pulling out all of my patriotic decor this weekend, I realized that I had a few things missing! I have my awesome placemats (tutorial here) and my favorite door hanger (You can get the design and the pattern from the Sulky Embroidery Club here) and I hung my flag in front of my house; but I didn’t have a new outfit to wear on July 4th and I really wanted a few more little things to go around the house. So I headed over to the Sulky Embroidery Club to see what patriotic designs were there to give me inspiration. The first one I came across was…

Quick Gifts – Make These In Less Than An Hour!
Sometimes you just need a really quick gift. Maybe you forgot about that bridal shower you are supposed to go to this weekend, or maybe you thought Father’s Day was next weekend (it’s not, by the way, it’s Sunday), or maybe you are just really good at procrastinating like me! Whatever the reason, sometimes a quick, yet thoughtful gift is in order. Before I go any further I do want to clear something up. Just because a gift is quick to make, doesn’t mean it isn’t meaningful. I mean you could have just stopped by the grocery store on your way to that shower or Father’s Day lunch, picked up…

Easy Computer Bag
Remember I did a tutorial on Matchstick Quilting awhile back? (if not, here it is). I took those pieces and made them into a very simple bag to carry my computer! Here is how I did it. I took my 2 pieces that I had Matchstick quilted and squared them up to 2 matching pieces at 15″ x 17″. Next, I added a zipper to the top (The top for me was the 17″ side). Sometimes people are a little nervous about zippers so I thought I would walk you through this one. Start by unzipping the zipper a couple inches, then lay the zipper face down on the right…

Upcycled reusable shopping bags
I need to confess. I am obsessive when it comes to the environment. I recycle everything, I compost, I reuse and I upcycle as much as posssible. I think it is important to be a good steward of the one and only planet in the Galaxy that God made for us humans to live on. I always have my reusable shopping bags in my car in case I need to stop at the store, but the ones that I had purchased are starting to wear out. Instead of going and buying more, I started looking around the house for something I could use to make shopping bags. I found this…

Matchstick Quilting Tutorial
When I went to Quiltcon in February, I discovered a new type of quilting called Matchsticking. It might not be new, but it is new to me! Matchstick quilting on one of the quilts hanging at Quiltcon 2015 I fell in love with this technique, so I cornered Jacquie Gering, the Chairperson of the Modern Quilt Guild, to tell me how it is done. She gave me some great tips, including telling me to just go home and try it! That is just what I did. If you want to try it, here are some tips to get you started. The first thing I did was use a ruler and a…

Sulky Cotton Thread & Solvy Eggs!
I love these eggs because they are pretty, easy and a great way to use your Sulky® Solvy™ Scraps. The directions below also give you an option to make it with 1 yard of Sulky Fabri-Solvy™ in case you haven’t been saving scraps but must have these eggs done for your home! Sulky Cotton Thread & Solvy Easter Eggs By Eric Drexler, Sulky National Educator Making Liquid Solvy For every 1 cup of water, microwave 30 seconds. Slowly add 1 yard of Fabri-Solvy.
