  • Easter Egg Holder Made In The Embroidery Hoop

    March 21, 2016 /

Easter Egg Holder Make an Easter Egg Holder completely in the hoop of your embroidery machine! This cute Easter Egg Holder design can be changed up by recipient by choosing different felt colors and further personalizing with a name or monogram, too. Grab the design and minimal materials and get started quickly and easily. A plastic egg fits inside nicely, but a dyed Easter egg does too! Add a name to the chick’s belly and treat these as place cards for your Easter table. Simply add a name using your machine screen before advancing to the embroidery steps. Because there isn’t much room for a large name, sub a monogram…

  • Finding Your Sewing Inspiration: How One Quilter Pulls Her Inspiration into Quilt Designs

    March 14, 2016 /

Guest Blog Post by Jen Frost of Faith and Fabric Inspiration is defined as: “the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative”. Everyone finds inspiration from a different source; perhaps it’s in the setting of a sun, a walk on the beach, fond memories of growing up, or events in popular culture. For me, I draw inspiration from the beauty of my faith – and use it as a basis for creative quilt designs. Today I’m excited to share two quilts I designed that came from this inspiration! Easter is a beautiful season which, to Christians of all denominations, has more emphasis…

  • Copyright and Crafters – Recap of my panel discussion at Quiltcon

    March 4, 2016 /

Copyright and crafters – a recap of a Quiltcon panel discussion! One of the fun thing I was able to do at Quiltcon West in Pasadena, CA a couple weeks ago was to be on a panel called Copyright and Your Work. We had a wonderful panel of people and an even better audience for this. The “copyright and crafters” discussion was so interesting and well received that I decided to give a recap here. The panel was moderated by Rossie Hutchinson of rossiecrafts.com and my fellow panelists were Suzanne Paquette of ateliersixdesign.com, Amy Marson (@amymarson on Instagram), Publisher with C & T Publishing, and Linda Augsburg, Editorial Content Chief of the Better…

  • St. Patrick’s Day TBT

    February 25, 2016 /

St. Patrick’s Day is just 3 weeks away! Are you planning a fun party, an Irish meal or doing any St. Patrick’s inspired crafts with you kids? My girls love to ‘look for the leprechaun’. We usually color him, hide him somewhere around the house or in the yard; and once they find him, we eat candy or cookies. Simple but fun. Here are some fun leprechaun coloring pages. Last year I made these St. Patty’s Day Placemats. They are quick and easy to make. The full tutorial is here. We also have some fun St. Patrick’s Day Machine Embroidery designs in the Sulky Embroidery Club. As always, click on the picture to…

  • Quiltcon 2016

    February 24, 2016 /

Growing up with a mother that is an artist and sewist means I have been going to quilt shows, craft fairs, art galleries and gatherings of creative people since before I can remember. Even our family vacations consisted of stops at museums, folk art installations (my mother’s favorite), the general store in a Mennonite community and fabric stores. So when I tell you that Quiltcon is different, I really mean different from any other kind of artist gathering I have been to. It’s hard to put my finger on one thing that makes it different, so I thought I would make a list: The quilts – Quiltcon quilts are, of course, modern…

  • Tips for Using All Sulky Threads on Longarm Machines

    February 15, 2016 /

By Sue Moats and Evelyn Byler These tips are from two professional Long Arm Quilters who are graciously allowing us to learn from their vast experience. Do you have any tips or tricks for Long Arm Quilting? If so, please leave them in the comments. While all Sulky threads can be used on longarm machines, some may need special handling. Some of the most important things are: Sew more slowly; use a soft, smooth thread in the bobbin; and use a needle with a larger eye, even when the thread seems very thin, like Sulky Original, Sliver™ and Holoshimmer™ Metallic Threads. It is not unusual to need to adjust the top…
