If you’d like yours to be more soft-sided, you can substitute a lighter interfacing on the liner like Sulky® Soft ‘n Sheer Extra™ instead of the Sulky Fuse ‘n Stitch™, or forgo interfacing the liner altogether. I used Sulky 30 wt. Cotton Thread with a denim needle throughout for the assembly of…

A Case for Polyester Thread – Top 7 Reasons to Use Polyester Thread
Polyester – The word conjures up different images for different people. For some it’s the polyester leisure suits of the 70’s, and for others it’s fabrics in bright neon colors. When I googled the word polyester in Google Images, most of the images were of bright fabrics, threads, workout clothes, the occasional sweater, and strangely, this image: Come to find out – they are experimenting with using shrimp to dye polyester (The more you know!). At Sulky®, when we say polyester, we are talking about thread. Back to School Sewing Series: Modern Ditty Bag – The Perfect Teacher’s Bag
Modern Ditty Bag – The Perfect Teacher’s Bag Hi Sulky® readers! I am Stephanie Kendron of Modern Sewciety and I am so excited to be here today sharing a project that I love to give as a back to school teacher’s gift, the Modern Ditty Bag. I made this bag for Janome’s blog last year and wanted to revisit it again this year to give to my daughter’s new teachers. I created this bag because every time I went to the school, the teachers would have a bag they carried when they left the classroom with the kids. The bag held all of the important things they needed, like a…

Machine Embroidery for the Summer
I recently met a friend who is not from the South and the concept of monogramming everything you own was completely foreign to her. As a G.R.I.T.S. (Girl Raised In The South), I explained the importance and beauty of having everything monogrammed. And yes, I do mean everything. The wonderful thing about monograms is they are an easy and elegant way to personalize a gift for someone. I decided to make a summer care package, including a monogrammed bag, towel, and beach hat, for my friend using several of the tutorials on this blog! Supplies Good quality beach towel Matching waterproof beach tote Wide brim straw hat Sulky Sticky Plus™…

Why You Should Embellish Fabric First
Do you ever wonder how a beautifully embroidered garment can be stitched so “perfectly”? Designs are perfectly centered on panels! Right and left sides are mirror images of each other! How is this possible? The trick is to embellish the fabric first! Let’s use a simple collar in understanding the steps: “Trace” the pattern piece, on grain, on a piece of fabric larger than the require finished cutting line. My favorite method is tailor tacks through both layers of fabric at the same time. That way I am sure to have both the right and left side of the required pattern. I baste along seam allowances for a visual…
