How to Autograph Your Quilt
By: Eric Drexler, Master of Free-Motion Did you know that today is National Handwriting Day? I don’t know about y’all, but I am personally NOT a fan of my handwriting (yikes!). But you know what, we should be proud of those messy, crooked letters! 🙂 On the blog today, we have Eric Drexler, Sulky Educator and Master of Free-Motion, talking about how he incorporates his own handwriting in his quilts! Here’s what he has to say… The first time I even thought about “signing” my quilt was at one of my first guild lectures. When the ultra-fun trunk show of beautiful Sulky® quilts, and some of my own, was over,…

Big Stitch Quilting with Sulky 12 Wt. Cotton Thread
I have to be honest, I had always looked at beautifully hand-quilted quilts and thought, “Well, that’s just crazy.” Although I loved the look feel and texture that hand quilting added to a project, I never saw myself doing such intricate work. The funny thing is, I love hand embroidery. Ah, the slow pace, the relaxation of having a project to work on at all times (I always have a hand embroidery project in my purse); and the satisfaction of finishing something that only required a simple needle and thread. I don’t know why it took my so long to realize that hand quilting is just one big hand embroidery…

I got a chance to chat with Katherine at the show. She is a lovely woman with a passion for all things quilty. Modern quilters use quite a lot of thread! Look at the beautiful machine and hand stitching in the quilt, Madonna by Brittany Bowen Burton, that won for Best Machine Quilting.…
