Fun Halloween Machine Embroidery Project
I love Halloween! I love decorating my house, the costumes, the trick or treating; it’s all just good clean fun. I am so glad that I live in a neighborhood where we get lots of Trick or Treaters! Since Halloween is on a Saturday this year, my annual Halloween party will be bigger than ever. That means I need to make a lot more decorations. I started with this fun and easy table top decoration. I got all the embroidery designs from The Sulky Embroidery Club! I used this Halloween Spoolie, And I chose these other two designs from a Halloween set in the Sulky Embroidery Club. I used a…

Sulky Supports Quilts of Valor
In honor of National Sewing Month, every week for the month of September I will be highlighting some of the amazing organizations that we support at Sulky of America. One of the coolest parts of this is that I had so many organizations to choose from! Sulky is such a generous company. I could have chosen from hundreds of organizations that do everything from teach kids to sew, to raising awareness of child abuse, to making clothes for children in Africa. I could tell you about providing thread and stabilizers to guilds across the country for their charity projects or when they provided Sulky 12 wt. Cotton to an after school…

Why September Is The Best Month
Just the other day I got out of my car and took in a big breath of air. I could hardly contain my excitement. I could smell the promise of fall. That slight bit of crispness, the low to possibly no humidity in the air; I have to admit, I went straight home and started pulling out my fall decor for the house. I love the fall. It is my favorite season full of my favorite colors, my favorite temperatures and my favorite activities. But September is truly my favorite of all! Here is my list of reasons why: My Birthday! My birthday is in September. When I was growing…

Fun Hand Embroidery Project – Business Card or Credit Card Holder
In an attempt to not snack at night while I am watching TV, I have been doing some hand embroidery every night. Part of the inspiration for this is Indygo Junction’s “Stitched Style” book. It has 20 great hand projects that are easy and hip. They are a modern take on the 70’s which I love. The designs are a perfect size to add to a ready-made item, like a purse or jacket or you can incorporate them into a project you are making, like a dress or a quilt. The book does have projects you can make that use the embroidery designs, which is what I did with the…

Sulky Online Sewing Classes – Have you tried it yet?
I love learning new things and expanding on my skills. Whether it’s learning how batik fabrics are made or learning a better way to appliqué, I want to know it all. Unfortunately, I don’t have the time or money to constantly run off to a quilt show or retreat and take these kinds of classes in person (although a trip to Bali to see them make batiks in person is on my bucket list). That is why I love Sulky’s online classes. We partnered with F&W Media for this because we wanted to bring you state of the art classes and still keep the autonomy to teach “The Sulky Way.”…

How to fold your fabric so you have room for more fabric
I was doing a little sewing room clean up last week. I had let thing get really messy and it was no longer a fun space full of inspiration. Instead it was a really cluttered space that was paralyzing. Do you ever let your sewing room get that messy? Part of the issue was I had a ton of fabric that need to be folded and put away properly. A few years ago, I took a class from Lois Hallock who wrote a great book called, “Creating Your Perfect Quilting Space.” In her book she gives a wonderful way to fold fabric that not only keeps all your fabric uniform…

Sandpaper Seashell Coasters
Yesterday, I did a tutorial on Sandpaper Crayon Art and I ended up with these lovely seashells. I decided they would be perfect coasters and a great way to practice my free-motion quilting skills! I took the fabric and layered it with batting and backing, securing everything together with Sulky KK 2000™ Temporary Spray Adhesive. I also picked some thread colors. I used Sulky 30 wt. Cotton Blendables in Hyacinth #4079 for the shells and Foliage #4009 for the quilting. I used a Sulky prewound bobbin the the bobbin. Set up your machine for free-motion. For my machine, I lower the feed dogs, put on the free-motion foot and use a…

Sandpaper Crayon Art Tutorial
Sandpaper Crayon Art Sandpaper Crayon Art is a unique technique for embellishing, and even the kiddos can get in on the action. I am still in a ‘beachy’ mood so I thought it would be fun to try doing the Sandpaper Seashells from the free pattern that we have on the website. I realized as I was doing it, the step-by-step instructions for actually doing the Sandpaper Crayon Art is no longer available on the site. This kind of thing happens when redesigning a website but we were all surprised that none of use has noticed this sooner. So we decided this was the perfect opportunity to update that tutorial for you here.…
