Christmas in July Series – The Speedy Spiral Christmas Tree Skirt
A speedy spiral Christmas tree skirt is just what we need to update our holiday décor. I know Christmas is 6 months away, but if you are like me, the closer it gets to the end of the year holidays, the more frantic I am. Between my kids going back to school, fall, Halloween, football season, Thanksgiving and then Christmas, I am lucky to get all my costumes and gifts made. I don’t usually have time to make any new Christmas decorations for myself. Every year, I say I am going to make new decorations and every year I get too busy. So this year I am doing them now!…

A Few Quick Patriotic Tutorials – Yes, you can do them all by this weekend!
As I was pulling out all of my patriotic decor this weekend, I realized that I had a few things missing! I have my awesome placemats (tutorial here) and my favorite door hanger (You can get the design and the pattern from the Sulky Embroidery Club here) and I hung my flag in front of my house; but I didn’t have a new outfit to wear on July 4th and I really wanted a few more little things to go around the house. So I headed over to the Sulky Embroidery Club to see what patriotic designs were there to give me inspiration. The first one I came across was…

Sulky Online Teacher Certification Testimonials
One of my favorite side effects of my job is that I get all kinds of phone calls, emails and comments from Sulky fans every week. Yesterday a woman called me in a panic. She was at a retail location looking at the wall of Sulky stabilizers and was just overwhelmed. I was able to talk with her about her projects and help her get the right product. But my absolute favorites are the emails that we get after someone has completed the online Sulky Teacher Certification class. Rather than me sitting here and recounting them to you, why don’t you read some of them for yourself… “I’m truly inspired and…

Mimi G Style Conference Fashion Show
Sulky was proud to once again sponsor the Mimi G Style Fashion, Sewing & Style conference last weekend in Los Angeles, CA. Mimi has been a great friend of Sulky and loves our products. This year, the conference added a fashion show where attendees could strut their stuff in clothing they had made using Mimi G patterns and tutorials. There is a wonderful blog post and slide show of that fashion show on her blog. Check it out here! Thanks, Mimi for letting Sulky once again participate in this great event. Happy Sewing!

7 Reasons to Sew Every Day
Sewing is my favorite hobby. I really would rather sew than just about anything, but life, kids, the house, the hubby , the job…it all seems to drown out that precious time to sew. One the my favorite bits of advice that I received when I asked you to send in advice to new sewists (see that post here) was to sew for at least 20 minutes per day! I love that and have tried to put that great advice into practice ever since then. It has been an amazing change for me in my life! Today I want to motivate you to do the same thing by giving you…

Quick Gifts – Make These In Less Than An Hour!
Sometimes you just need a really quick gift. Maybe you forgot about that bridal shower you are supposed to go to this weekend, or maybe you thought Father’s Day was next weekend (it’s not, by the way, it’s Sunday), or maybe you are just really good at procrastinating like me! Whatever the reason, sometimes a quick, yet thoughtful gift is in order. Before I go any further I do want to clear something up. Just because a gift is quick to make, doesn’t mean it isn’t meaningful. I mean you could have just stopped by the grocery store on your way to that shower or Father’s Day lunch, picked up…

Why I Became a Sulky Certified Teacher
As most of you know, my journey with Sulky began because I took a Sulky Teacher Certification class. I knew about Sulky before that class, I had an embarrassing amount of Sulky Thread and Sulky Stabilizers, but I, like many people, only thought of Sulky when I needed to do some machine embroidery. That’s when National Educator Nancy Sapin came to my quilt guild and gave an amazing and inspiring presentation about thread. She showed so many samples and inspiring projects and none of them were machine embroidery! They were quilts, bags, wearables, scarfs and even bowls. She mentioned the Sulky Teacher Certification Class and I was intrigued. I was ready…

Why Sulky Partnered with Frond Design Studios
Have you ever met someone, or even seen someone on TV or at a lecture and thought, “We could be good friends!” That is what we thought when we first met Stephanie Brandenburg, the creator of Frond Design Studios and saw her fabric. Well, just see for yourself. Look at this amazing fabric! If the fabric wasn’t enough to inspire (which it totally is, by the way), Stephanie’s passion and vision for her company sealed the deal for us. This is what she says about starting Frond Design Studios in her own words: A quote from Stephanie Brandenburg, Owner and Creator of Frond Design Studios “Frond Design Studios is the perfect example of…

Top 10 Notions from Eric Drexler, Sulky Educator
Eric Drexler’s Top 10 Notions If I was on a deserted island with power and my sewing machine, these are the 10 notions I would need, and why: Collins Sewer’s Aid: It is a silicone lubricant that helps with some speciality threads, and fabrics. What I like the most is it keeps the adhesive off my needle when using any sticky-back product (including fusible webs). Simply put a drop on your finger and rub on the needle. Reapply as you start to see a build up again. Sew Steady Table: Since I first laid eyes on this extension table, I knew I was in love. The square inches of extra work area…
