Make a Halloween Quilt with Applique Embroidery Designs

A Halloween quilt is a great home-decor project that serves many purposes! Throw it over the couch to cozy up with; hang it on the wall to display a festive vibe; bundle up little ones in their strollers on Halloween night.

The quilt size is great to comfort kids, gift as a lap quilt or even pamper your pet’s bed. Constructed by strip piecing, the Cuddle fabric by Shannon Fabrics is like butter to sew. With our convenient kit, you won’t even have to contend with cutting it, either! Thee strips are ready to sew and embroider, complete with stabilizers and six spools of high-quality Sulky rayon thread.

Halloween Quilt Embroidery

I love adding embroidery to blankets, throws and quilts. The additional stitching and embellishment adds a little something special that makes the project unique and personalized. And any time I can coordinate the embroidery motifs with the fabric prints, I’m a happy girl! The time it takes to sift through gazillions of designs online is a rabbit hole of eternity! The time saved by having designs included is an invaluable asset.

The exclusive design collection that comes with this Halloween quilt, called the Lullaby Cuddle Frankie kit, includes a large-scale Frankie appliqué design stitched in coordinating Cuddle fabrics. If you’ve ever tried to appliqué a fabric that likes to shed and stretch, you know the struggle! By stitching the appliqué in the hoop of your embroidery machine, you save time and lint-roll refills. Five additional designs are included to sprinkle on the quilt top for added embellishment. How cute are these?

Cuddle Fabric Tips

You’ll love the feel of this Cuddle fabric by Shannon Fabrics. It’s so luxurious! If you’ve never tried sewing with it, Shannon Fabrics has a quick tip sheet that gives you all the advice you need to ensure flawless results.

A walking foot is a great tool to have, but if you don’t have one or it isn’t available for your machine model, try sandwiching the seams between layers of Sulky Solvy. The stabilizer tames the fibers and washes away completely when construction is complete. Make sure you have a size 90/14 Organ Jersey needle for construction, too. But use a 90/14 Organ embroidery needle when working in the hoop.
