  • Pumpkin Carving on Craft Pumpkins

    October 15, 2015 /

NOTE: This is part two of a two part series, read about carving on real pumpkins here. Although I love the look and feel of real pumpkins around my house in the fall, I also love the fact that craft pumpkins will last longer than one season! This is especially true if I am taking the time to carve a pumpkin with a really intricate design. My 10 year old daughter, Korey, loved the idea of keeping her carved pumpkin for several seasons so she carved a Funkins Craft pumpkin. We used Sulky Stick ‘n Carve and chose one of the free designs from Zombie Pumpkins that you get when you buy the…

  • Cancer Fighting Wall Hanging Tutorial

    October 14, 2015 /

Cancer Fighting Wall Hanging Tutorial I went and got my mammogram a few weeks ago. I have to admit, they are not fun but they aren’t the end of the world either. The nurse was really sweet, they got me in and out pretty quickly. Truthfully, I’d rather get a mammogram than go for a 5K run :). The results came back normal, which is great. Have you gotten your mammogram done? One of the things National Breast Cancer Foundation does is help women get their mammograms through a National Mammography Program. They partner with medical facilities across the country to provide free mammograms and diagnostic breast care services to…

  • Easy Pumpkin Carving!

    October 13, 2015 /

This past weekend, we went with some friends to North Georgia to Burt’s Pumpkin Patch. It’s a fun place with lots and lots of pumpkins. Today, the girls wanted to carve our pumpkin. I pulled out my package of Sulky Stick n’ Carve and we downloaded the 10 free designs that you get when you purchase Stick ‘n Carve. The designs are by Zombie Pumpkins and are amazing. I have to admit, I wasn’t sure if my 9 and 10 year old would be able to actually carve the designs they picked, but I figured we would give it shot. We do have the Professional Pumpkin Carving Tool Set from Zombie Pumpkins…

Cancer Fighting Tote Bag Tutorial As promised, here is the first of several tutorials to go with our Pink Ribbon Thread Sets that 10% of the proceeds will go to National Breast Cancer Foundation. This a cancer fighting tote bag can be filled with thoughtful things for someone who is going through Chemotherapy treatments. If you happen to be unfamiliar with chemo, it generally works like this. The person with cancer has to go to a room full of chairs that are all equipped with IV’s. They get hooked up to an IV and their particular “cocktail” of drugs is given through the IV. This usually takes several hours and…

  • My Favorite Halloween Placemat Tutorial

    October 2, 2015 /

Have you noticed a theme in my Halloween Decor? I love spiders! I think they are fascinating; the way they make their webs, how they move around so much, even the designs on their bodies. It’s probably because “Charlotte’s Web” and “Be NiceTo Spiders” were my favorite books growing up. Halloween gives me a chance to put cute, spider-y things all over the house! (Let’s be honest, spider decor all year round is just creepy). A few years ago I bought cute spider web placemats for my breakfast table but the center of the table was naked! It needed a little something, so I made this wonderful placemat for the…

  • Sulky Supports The National Breast Cancer Foundation

    October 1, 2015 /

Two summers ago, my closest friend received the awful news. She had breast cancer. The last two years have been spent getting operations, chemo, radiation, and more operations. I remember two Octobers ago sitting in the chemo room with my friend. We were looking at a magazine and seeing all the ads about Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We chuckled at the irony. Neither of us needed a special month to be aware of breast cancer. At this point, it was a daily part of our lives. I am happy to report to you that today my friend is cancer free, a survivor; complete with her new boobies and freshly grown hair. She…

  • One Great Halloween Table Topper

    September 24, 2015 /

The Halloween spirit continues with this fun table topper! For this one, I picked some of the fun Halloween fabric from my stash and just started cutting wedges with my 10° Wedge Ruler. I know the lengths are all a little different but I will get to how I fixed that in a bit. My shortest wedge was about 8.” If your shortest piece is shorter or longer, then your circle will end up being a little bigger or smaller. My finished diameter is 24″. The first thing to do is to just sew strips together until you get a circle that lays flat. Next, I needed a template to…

    September 23, 2015 /

I am thrilled to tell you about this organization. Every once in a while an opportunity comes up that is just so good, you must participate. That is how we feel about CPALI (Conservation Through Poverty Alleviation, International). This great organization works in Madagascar with rural farmers to develop sustainable livelihoods that support both people and ecosystems. They focus on existing resources, local leadership, community ownership and linking partners to global markets. You may be wondering how a thread company with offices in Kennesaw, GA, is helping this organization on the other side the the world. We give Sulky Polyester Invisible Thread to women working on the CPALI wild silk project. These women have an opportunity to earn…
