“Raven Captures the Sun” Art Quilt
“Raven Captures the Sun” Art Quilt by Chris Eichner Did you know that according to an ancient legend, the solar eclipse occurs when a Raven “captures” the sun? This legend became the inspiration for Chris Eichner – Fiber Artist, Designer, and Sulky Certified Teacher – and her award-winning art quilt “The Raven Captures the Sun”. “The quilt originated from a challenge to ‘Thread Heads’, which is a group of fiber artists that I’m a member of in Seneca, South Carolina. We were asked by Duke Energy Nuclear Power Plant to create art quilts for display for the month of August, which would represent the solar eclipse on August 21, 2017.” says…

Why It’s Never Too Late to Start Machine Embroidery
I met Clyde by phone about a year ago when he called with some questions about threads and stabilizers. I was so charmed by him, and we ended up talking about all kinds of things. The fact that he was 80+ years old and had just recently embarked on a computerized embroidery hobby blew me away! He kept in touch, and I asked to read his book. (Yes! He wrote a book – for his family and friends). After his wonderful book, I felt like we were friends, too. It is so unusual to meet men who embroider; and men who begin embroidery in the their 80’s are rare indeed. …

“Mad Tea Party” Jacket
“Mad Tea Party” Jacket By Diane Gloystein This is the story of how my “Mad Tea Party” jacket nearly drove me mad. As a National Educator representing Sulky of America, I often hear comments from people who assume that, as an educator, I must know it all, have all the answers, and easily whip out one project after the next. Just for the record, I want everyone to know that I, too, have sewing projects that are disastrous and throw me close to the brink of insanity as I wonder how this hobby that can be so much fun can just as easily send me over the edge. Where it…

Fashion Flip | The Bandanna Sweatshirt
I recently came across this adorable sweatshirt. With a not-so-adorable price tag of $148. So, I decided to make it myself. I made mine for $22! Here is how I did it. I purchased an XXL sweatshirt from Target for $20. I liked the color, the feel, and the neckline looked like it would work well for this project. I purchase the two bandannas at Hobby Lobby for $1 apiece. (NOTE: You can make this Fashion Flip for even less, if you use a sweatshirt you already own, or get one at a thrift store or a store like Hobby Lobby, which sells them as blanks for projects.) Since the…

How to Autograph Your Quilt
By: Eric Drexler, Master of Free-Motion Did you know that today is National Handwriting Day? I don’t know about y’all, but I am personally NOT a fan of my handwriting (yikes!). But you know what, we should be proud of those messy, crooked letters! 🙂 On the blog today, we have Eric Drexler, Sulky Educator and Master of Free-Motion, talking about how he incorporates his own handwriting in his quilts! Here’s what he has to say… The first time I even thought about “signing” my quilt was at one of my first guild lectures. When the ultra-fun trunk show of beautiful Sulky® quilts, and some of my own, was over,…
