I have to be honest, I had always looked at beautifully hand-quilted quilts and thought, “Well, that’s just crazy.” Although I loved the look feel and texture that hand quilting added to a project, I never saw myself doing such intricate work. The funny thing is, I love hand embroidery. Ah, the slow pace, the relaxation of having a project to work on at all times (I always have a hand embroidery project in my purse); and the satisfaction of finishing something that only required a simple needle and thread. Trends From Quiltcon 2017 Quiltcon is a quilt show like no other as it focuses specifically on the world of Modern Quilting! The quilt above won Best In Show. It is titled bling by Katherine Jones from Tasmania, Australia. The quilt was paper pieced from solid fabrics; the inspiration for this quilt was a princess cut diamond. I got a chance to chat with Katherine at the show. She is a lovely woman with a passion for all things quilty. Modern quilters use quite a lot of thread! It’s Pi day (3.14) and to celebrate we wanted to show you an Easy as Pi(e) way to do a Mariner’s Compass. I met Robin at Quiltcon 2017 and was fascinated by her rulers and the way she put together a Mariner’s Compass. Congratulations Eric Drexler! Your Quilt Will Be in the Arizona AQS Show
It’s the kind of letter every quilter dreams of receiving. The one that starts with, “Congratulations! The jury has accepted your quilt in the 2016 QuiltWeek® Contest in Phoenix, Arizona February 11-14, 2016 at the Phoenix Convention Center.” That is the news that Sulky National Educator and Free-Motion Guru Eric Drexler received recently and he was over-the-moon excited. “This was such great news, especially since this particular quilt has been such a joy to complete. The Viewpoints 9 Exhibit in Houston
Sulky was honored to be able to sponsor the amazing Viewpoints 9 Exhibit at the International Quilt Market and Festival this year. Viewpoints 9 is an international, invitational, fiber art group founded in 2012.
