10 Pumpkin Projects to sew for fall It’s time to spice things up with pumpkin projects that are easily doable before Halloween and last long after into the fall season. Pumpkin Carving Ok, so this one doesn’t involve sewing. But, you CAN use your sewing supplies to help carve adorable pumpkins with ease! Simply use Sulky Stick ‘n Carve™ to transfer your pumpkin design straight to the gourd, and cut right through it. Just like Sulky Stick ‘n Stitch™, Stick ‘n Carve is water-soluble, so it washes away completely when carving is complete. Cotton Petites Thread: Top 10 Uses for Sewing Projects
Top 10 Uses for Sulky Cotton Petites™ Thread Sulky 12 wt. Cotton Petites thread is a great thread choice for so many sewing applications. The thread is heavyweight, 12 wt. to be exact, comes in myriad colors (even Blendables®) and one strand equals two strands of traditional embroidery floss. HANDWORK vs MACHINE SEWING Yes, you can use this heavyweight thread for hand or machine sewing. For serging, try this thread in the loopers for a full coverage rolled hem or decorative blanket edging. For machine embroidery, try this thread in “heavy,” “fur” or “brushed” designs (just don’t brush the design out; use Sulky Filaine to achieve that effect). For standard…

Summer is coming and it’s time to get the patio furniture out of hiding and gather some fun outdoor embroidery projects to jazz up your deck decor. Using blanks, like tea towels and bath towels, is one super simple way to embroider personalized projects in a fraction of the time. Weigh the cost of purchasing a blank, or set of blanks, rather than the yardage needed to create the project if the main focus is embroidery. Memorial Day Projects & Sentiments to Honor Fallen Heroes
This weekend we remember the heroes who gave their lives to protect our freedom with Memorial Day projects. To show our love and respect, we bring out our American flags and salute those who have gone before us. Many of us host gatherings to celebrate America. A veritable pre-fourth-of-July, with hot dogs, watermelon and maybe even some fireworks. Some of us decorate with red, white and blue. And of course we need some homemade quilted treasures to sprinkle throughout the house. It’s a great time to be with loved ones and reflect on sacrifices that have been made and are made every day that allow us to live our lives…

Machine Embroidery Series – Linen
Linen is the perfect fabric for summer clothing and it is also very popular for home linens and decorative pillows. Let’s not forget accessories such as aprons, purses/totes, guest towels or handkerchiefs. Although the natural flax fiber can be combined with synthetic ones, linen fabric is at its best when 100% natural fibers are used. Linen can be found in a wealth of colors and in a variety of textures: delicately smooth and refined through to a nubby, coarse appearance. How the flax stalks are “processed” and the fibers spun all play a part in the look and weight of the fabric. Linen fabric should always be pre-washed and dried…

Trends from 2016 Spring Quilt Market
My favorite part of Quilt Market is being able to spot the new trends for the industry. I love to see what is inspiring the people and companies in this wonderful world of quilting and sewing. Just like in the fashion industry, some trends seem to stay around for a long time while others fly off the scene as quickly as they show up. This year, I noticed some long standing trends slowly fading (I saw very little chevron compared to past shows) and some others leaving almost as quickly as they came (hint: we can use the whole rainbow again). After taking some time to digest this year’s Spring Market,…

Trends From 2015 Fall Quilt Market
The International Quilt Market in Houston is an exhilarating experience. The exhibit hall is the biggest I have ever seen and it is full of new quilting and sewing things. Everything from the newest fabric lines to the latest gadget. All that newness is overwhelming. After a couple weeks of digesting, I have come up with what I believe are the trends from this year’s Market. Here are my thoughts. The Slow Stitch Movement is in full swing! Whether you are into traditional redwork, wool applique, sashiko or modern embroidery, everyone is incorporating hand embroidery into their sewing. Colors – I am in love with the current color palate that is permeating…
